Every Question Ever Asked about IPM & Other Options For Commerce Students.

Some people have inertia while starting preparation because they get overwhelmed with the vast content to consume, comprehend and complete. Some people lose focus in the middle for the same reason as competitive exam preparation doesn’t give the instant results that board exams do. Some feel lazy or distracted because of the plethora of gadgets we are surrounded by.

So what can you do?

Try to gamify your entire preparation with tickboxes to complete and time slots to be efficient. It’s not as easy because every person’s temperament is different.

Break down your entire preparation into chunks that require your focus, and don’t try to put more on your plate than you can handle in a given day, as incompletion can make you lose motivation. Also, read the book Deep Work by Cal Newport, the insights he gives will allow you to create an effective schedule for yourself.
If you’re starting with the logarithm, put focus for 20 minutes while watching a video. Get some instant gratification by successfully solving a couple of questions. And if you can’t solve a question, don’t get frustrated and focus on understanding the solution as if a similar concept comes up again, it’ll be a right-hand game for you.

Don’t see the end of the progress bar as completing the syllabus, that’ll make it very intimidating. Try to see how much exposure you’re getting to different types of questions! Don’t make IIM Indore your be-all and end-all, recognise that in the smallest step you take towards IPMAT, you are learning something new which is going to develop your character and personality. Try to be as burdenless as you can by keeping yourself open to back-ups!

Firstly, know that it’s completely normal to feel this way. The best part is that you wouldn’t have to complete your syllabus, and the biggest ace of a non-math student is the ability to pick easy questions and clear the cutoff and you can 100% maximize your score in English.

It is not going to be easy, it’ll be grueling, but you’ll have to up your tenacity and get studying done by watching a lot of videos, and practicing double the questions. There’s no shortcut apart from getting to work right away.

And if you want to be effective, we mention a strategy in this video for IPMAT that works out well for anyone willing to be disciplined: https://youtu.be/t-u_aaeUHgQ

We also recorded a very motivating video of a non-math student and her journey to IIM Indore: https://youtu.be/lpmythahwEw

Wren and Martin is highly reccomended. S Chand’s books from high school are useful for somebody with a weak base in Grammar. Better English by Norman Lewis is also fun to read. It focuses on grammar and other non-vocab portions of language not covered in WPME.

Yes, you need to individually register for each college.

Yes, without fail. NALSAR is well established college. Its standards transfer into its IPM program, despite law being its specialty. Moreover, they’re working very hard on providing all kinds of opportunities outside of a classroom, including but not limited to a village immersion program, internship at a start-up, fests, and events.

The only issue people have is that their MBA placements aren’t as high. However, they have an exit open after their BBA which allows you to appear for CAT and aim for a better MBA college.

NALSAR applications are open. The application is ₹1,200 for general candidates. It’s definitely worth keeping as a backup. They accept IPMAT Indore, Rohtak, JIPMAT, CLAT, as well as JEE. Also, know that Telangana residents have 25% of the reservation seat.

IIM Ranchi eventually floats a form (usually after IIM Indore). It will cost ₹2000 for general and ₹1000 for reserved candidates. Initially, you will submit your details along with the IPMAT Indore roll number. After the IPMAT Indore exam, they will request your scores.

Yes, it comes under the PI component, which means that they are only evaluated once you clear the cutoffs.

As of the admission process until 2022, IIM Ranchi has not released its cutoffs publicly. However, based on our survey, the aggregate cutoff for general category in 2021 and 2022 was 110/240 and 187/360 respectively.

Yes, IIM Rohtak takes best 5 subjects irregardless of the boards convention.

At the UG level, most Mumbai University colleges admit on the basis of board marks. Only recently have some moved to entrances:

  1. XET – Xavier’s BMS (some weightage to boards; other courses still accept only boards, I believe)
  2. CUET – Narsee Moonjee (≠NMIMS)
  3. JHC CEE – Jai Hind College
